Shapeshifters

Shapeshifters

Throughout history and across cultures there have been stories of men and women who can change their form and turn into animals. It is seen as a skill employed by the gods and the god-like to aid their followers, or to trick and deceive them. It has been granted as a gift in some religions to reward the just and deserving; or seen as a curse cast down from the heavens (or brought up from the hells) to punish misdeeds. For some, it is a natural state of existence where they live in the world neither as fully human nor fully bestial.

Whether natural, magical, cursed or inherited, the shapeshifter is as much a part of the supernatural world as any other supernatural creature. They, too, must walk in shadow and hide their differences from those who would abuse and/or persecute them.

There are two classes of shapeshifters in NYC: werecreatures (werewolves, wererats, etc) and non-werecreatures. Werewolves, and to some extent wererats, however, consider themselves a separate and elite sect from others who can shift into an animal form.
